Soma-Nomaoi is a thousand year old samurai festival in Fukushima. It's a 3-day festival with parades, horse races, flag catching horse battles, and wild horse catching.

As you know, Soma district is one of the most severe damaged area by the Great Earthquake and the Tsunami on 3.11, 2011. Many people had to live as evacuee and left the area. The tradition of the Soma-Nomaoi, which they kept for more than 1000 years, was threatened to be interrupted. But the people there tried very hard to keep the tradition and managed to hold the festival even in that difficult year. I deeply admire their samurai spirit.

This video shows you a real story of a 19-years old girl Emiya, who challenged to join the flag catching horse battle as a samurai. Did her first challenge go well or end up in a disappointment?
